Valour Manor is a charity for the advancement of superhero training. At its heart is a mixed training academy which leads a dynamic range of training activities and an expanding network of superpowered partnerships. The charity’s primary purpose, determined from its foundation in 1645, is to draw out the best and to enable them to flourish and make a positive impact on others through the course of a healthy, happy and fulfilling life.

Valour Manor provides training and support for the growing UK Superhero Community. In association with ValourTech PLC and British Lionheart Pharmaceuticals, Valour Manor provides a strong nurturing environment for heroes to develop their brand, their persona and their powers. Heroes forged at the Valour Manor go on to careers in the military, the government and the private sector, with many getting shortlisted to join the British National Superhero Team, THE BRIGADE.

With graduates including Diamond Geezer, Professor Power and of course Lionheart,
Valour Manor is where heroes are not born.
They are made.

"Where heroes are not born,
they are made"

Valour Manor

At Valour Manor you will take on the role of the superhumanly enhanced students looking to start their career in superheroes. The School caters for post graduate training over two years, a Junior and a Senior year. In the Junior Year the students are looking to impress their tutors and attract sponsors while ensuring that they are on the right academic track for their Senior Year. In the Senior Year students are preparing for life outside of the Manor, hoping they haven’t disappointed their sponsors and preparing to find out where they will end up. Characters are typically mature students.

Out with the old and in with the new
The larp will be set in modern day Britain waking up from the rigours of over a decade of Conservative rule only to pass the baton to a “modernised” Labour Party that looks uncannily similar to the Conservative party that has just been voted out. We will draw parallels to the changeover from the Major/Thatcher years to the Blair Government of the mid 90s. We will look deeply into the intertwining of establishment, politics, celebrity culture and corruption. In particular we will look at the uncaring corporate capitalist greed, and how it marches in lockstep with the media to create an environment where abuse and exploitation is covered up, watered down or justified entirely.

The characters will belong to an oppressed class of people who are born with supernatural powers that are almost always a hindrance more than they help. They find their love and solidarity with their chosen families, their role in society and their stubborn refusal to just disappear. They will struggle with their physical transformations as they manage painful and humiliating drug treatments to make their physical manifestation match society's expectations. They will also experience extreme emotional instability as the drugs do battle with their hormones to bring about these changes, all while facing life changing educational trials that would impact the rest of their lives.

The larp will also have a strong pop culture vibe, violently clashing 60’s and 90’s revivals with the 2020’s. There will be music, art, culture and loud vibrant colours, as a group of people forced to hide from society are now forced to find their brand and stand out from the crowd. All while also trying to keep up with the chimerical standards and norms of an ever shifting public discourse on the acceptable face of superpowers. They will deal with the militarised law enforcement history of the previous generations' exploitation of their kind, while simultaneously trying to articulate their own fight for rights and fair treatment in a way that won’t scare people into trying to round them all up and shoot them again.

There will be biscuits.

Setting

The Setting

Pax Vivifica
The Vivifica Serum was originally developed in the early Victorian apothecaries as a means of discovering the secrets of life after death. The Revivification Serum resulted in a spate of monsters and creatures that plagued early Victorian society until the development of the Transfiguration Formula that allowed limited control over these mutations. Towards the end of the century a pioneering scientist used this formula to cure Diphtheria in his child, only to find the mutations made the child stronger than ever. During World War 1 the first signs of Deviants on the battlefield started to get the attention of global powers leading to attempts to specifically encourage such powers. World War Two became the testing ground for new manifestation of Vivifica Deviations as the first generation of Vivifica Children were conscripted into the military across the world.

After the war the presence of Digressive Vivifica Mutations in newborn children, as well as an increase in out of control Digressive Superpowers, led to strict regulations on the sale and distribution of Vivifica Serums and the requirement for those with such mutations to be licenced. Calls for a cull of manifestations of “Grotesque Vivifica Mutations” in the 60s led to thousands of Deviate Vivicants being killed by contracted hunters with high powered rifles. Dedicated police sharpshooter teams would work with licenced and regulated Vivifica Deviants to help control the population of out of control mutations. In time, the Licensed Deviants were deemed to require a public relations change to match the Vivifica Heroes of World War 2 and the modern Superhero program was born.

Vivifica Manifestations come in four broad categories. Metamutogenic Mental or Physical development, known colloquially as Thinkers and Bricks, or Supermutagenic Mental or Physical development, known as Paragons or Psychics. Metamutgenic Mutations are incredibly enhanced improvements to the physical capabilities of the individual such as hyper invention or superstrength. Supermutagenic Mutations are enhanced improvements to the externality of the individual, elemental control or telepathy. Mild manifestations are regulated but not really considered a public order offence. A licence is not required but it is a good idea. Strong Manifestations are highly regulated and require a licence or face imprisonment. Grotesque Manifestations of all kinds are illegal.

Experience

The Experience

Inspired by the Boys, X Men, Watchmen and V for Vendetta, Valour Manor is set in a British Post Graduate academy preparing people with superpowers for their Superpowered lives! The characters are all people with powers who are hoping to get a place on the legendary British Superhero team THE BRIGADE, while also making sure that they keep up with their assignments, please their sponsors, don’t make too many enemies or lose track of who they really are.

We will see who will be Superheroes and who will end up being sold as part of the UK Military Industrial complexes Superspy program. Those not good enough for either of these paths may consider a career in the Super Civil Service or maybe just end up as Super Celebrities trying to leverage their status to gain followers.

Themes
We will not be exploring the more puerile humour of the Boys, but will maintain the focus on sex, violence and corruption. We will be looking at themes of exploitation, abuse of power, wealth and status, and shady corporate and establishment practices.

This is a larp primarily about the personal moral sacrifices people make in order to stand out from the crowd even when they are already significantly privileged compared to the rest of the population. We will also look into parental and societal pressure, disappointment, trying to fit in, being uncomfortable in your own skin, being forced into moulds that are not intended for you and the like.

Characters

The Characters

Students at Valour Manor are placed into Supergroups of people with similar politics, potential and powers. Quite often these groups don’t fit, so the establishment will help you to fit. You will share a dorm with your supergroup while you develop your individual and group brand. In your free time you will have socials and other extracurricular activities organised by the Private Members Clubs that you will be encouraged to join. You will meet with sponsors and pave your future, using this opportunity to network and develop your identity.

Classes in Law Enforcement, Public Relations, Power Development and Corporate Policy will help you to maximise your Super Persona. While ongoing storylines will unfold throughout the weekend relating to the world of supers, fantastic opportunities and possibly the future of the Manor itself. Ultimately you will find out if you are on track to build a career in one of the four outcomes of the manor.

SUPERHERO
The prize goal, the best of the best. You will be the public face of the emergency services and you fight crime, prevent disasters, and protect the innocent. Only a few will be able to reach this prestigious position, but you will all want to be one of Britain’s greatest superheroes. The best of the Superheroes will be given a chance to join THE BRIGADE. Britain's greatest superhero team.

SUPERSPY

Super Powered individuals sold to governments all over the world to make excellent use of some of the finest weaponised superpowers on the planet. Your worth measured in millions you will be a prize asset in private conflicts all over the globe, helping bring peace, security and stability to regimes all over the world.

SUPER CIVIL SERVANT
If you have no real marketable military assets then there might still be some room for you working in Whitehall for the government. Mind bending Bureaucrats, Amazing Administrators, Super powered number crunchers will all find an exceptional stable, safe and secure career in government middle management.

SUPER CELEBRITY
Even if you find yourself not qualified for any of these real jobs, there will still be a chance for you to leverage your contacts and networking skills to become Super Influencers, affecting consumer culture, helping people with their purchasing choices or their personality problems and helping them overcome adversity in their own lives. Is This Event For Me?

Valour Manor is a larp about power, influence, society and corruption. Characters are students who have been given illegal quantities of a superpower enhancing drug when they were infants and risk developing dangerous superpowers. Throughout their lives they would have either been in special educational programs or hiding their developing powers from the eyes of the authorities. The Valour Manor Academy is where the powers are turned into a branded Superhero identity that can be understood by the population. Your characters will face fear, threat, dehumanisation, blackmail and ultimately either idolation, celebrity and wealth or isolation, infamy and exploitation.
✅ You enjoy playing characters exploring their emotions and feelings.

✅ You like to develop deep and interesting interactions with other characters.

✅ You enjoy exploring celebrity culture and how unregulated social and financial capital corrupts those around them

✅ You enjoy being at the mercy of a heartless corporate capitalist entity that is only interested in the exploitation of your character.

✅ You like superhero fiction and want to explore the personal lives, chosen families and practical day to day of being a being with such power.

✅ You want to explore characters whose biological make up means that they are more extra than other people. They are prone to emotional instability, reckless behaviours and insecurity.

✅ You enjoy working with other participants to create a safe and exciting environment for all.

❌ This is not the larp for you if you want to successfully take down the establishment. While individual characters may revolt, this is not a larp where you take down the Manor.

❌ This is not a larp for you if you do not want to be at the mercy of a ruthless corporate entity that sees you as a product that needs to be exploited. Either as a problem that needs solving or as an asset that can be sold.

❌ This is not a larp to bring your preconceived notions of how larp works. Different larps have different conventions, designed to fit the experience.

❌ This is not a larp where you have to work around event organisers to get the story you want. We have a team that is happy to work with you as long as your play does not step on the play of others.
